Hi, I’m John Fotheringham, a linguist, English teacher, author, and consultant who helps English learners master the language and techniques they need to get the job of their dreams.
After studying Linguistics, Japanese, and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) at Western Washington University, I began a decade-long adventure in East and South Asia, teaching English at a rural Japanese high school, working as a translator and interpreter for the Japanese government, consulting for a telecom startup in Bangladesh, and teaching business English, learning Mandarin, and studying Wing Chun and Baguazhang in Taiwan.
I now live in eastern Washington State where you can find me cooking healthy meals with my wife, making corny puns, doing improv comedy, or exploring trails on bike or foot.
I also run the website LanguageMastery.com, where I show people how to learn Japanese or Mandarin Chinese anywhere in the world through my Anywhere Immersion ™ approach, and share interviews with the world’s best language learners on The Language Mastery Show.
